POSTSCRIPT OPTIMIZATION
Unlike Microsoft Windows print drivers, aycan designs their own print drivers using PostScript language. These print drivers are exclusively optimized for medical printouts to achieve outstanding detail, accuracy and resolution. Additionally it is not necessary to deal with printer and driver settings. Furthermore, all supported printers must pass strict quality criteria as well as durability and long-term tests.
CUTSTOMER LOGO
The appearance of the top and bottom border is customizable to individual needs. For example customer logos or other graphics can be inserted and will be printed together with the DICOM images. Additionally there is the option to print three text lines in the left upper corner and four text lines in the right upper corner. The graphics and text can be set individually for every single modality.
Furthermore, paper prints are a nice marketing tool for radiologists and radiological departments as the printouts are given to patients and referring physicians.
LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM
LINUX is by far the better operating system compared to the Microsoft Windows products when it comes to system stability and security. Therefore the aycan xray-print Server is highly reliable, easily maintained and cannot be attacked by viruses. The LINUX operating system is part of the aycan software, so a separate purchase of an operating system is not necessary.
QUALITY ADJUSTMENT
The paper printout should look almost the same as on the monitor of the modality where it is printed from. To adjust the brightness and the contrast of the printouts a so called "Look Up Table" is used. Because every modality needs a different image quality adjustment, the LUTs can be assigned individually for every modality. Look Up Tables can be defined for 8 bit, 10 bit, 12 bit and 16 bit DICOM images.
SYSTEM RECOVERY
The aycan xray-print Server boots up directly from the aycan xray-print software CD with every restart of the system. During boot-up the system is scanned for errors that will be automatically fixed. In the unfortunate event that the complete hard disk fails, a system restore can be done within 10 minutes with the easy to use graphical setup wizard. All customer specific settings (quality adjustments, modality configurations, etc.) are restored from USB flash drive or floppy disk, so downtimes can be kept to a minimum.
COMPATIBILITY
With more than 10 years of experience, aycan is the pioneer and a leading provider of DICOM paper print solutions. During more than 800 installations worldwide numerous modalities have been connected. Due to this experience aycan xray-print is the most compatible system on the market.
Besides, aycan xray-print was successfully tested at the European IHE Connectathon 2002 and 2003 (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise).
REALTIME OUTPUT PREVIEW
For quality adjustments, a preview window of the DICOM image is displayed on the monitor of the aycan xray-print Server. Changes in brightness and contrast using "Look Up Tables" are displayed in realtime inside the preview window. Thereby quality adjustment is quick and easy.
Additionally a histogram function shows the spectrum of the grayscales of the DICOM image for advanced picture analysis.
COLOR CORRECTION
The aycan xray-print software provides easy access to the printers color correction abilities. For optimum color reproduction on the paper print, different settings can be activated, tested and compared.
GRAYSCALE STANDARD DISPLAY FUNCTION (GSDF)
The human perceptual response to different levels of brightness is not linear. For example the eye is more sensitive to brightness changes in the bright areas of an image than in the dark areas. GSDF describes this property of human vision in mathematical terms, based on Barten's model of the human visual system. As a result the incoming gray levels are mapped to gray levels that are perceived as linear by a human observer.
REMOTE MAINTENANCE
The aycan xray-print Server can be maintained remotely by using a VPN connection (Virtual Private Network) or by direct ISDN dial-in. Remote capabilities include system failure diagnosis, remote quality adjustments and connection/configuration of new modalities.
